Treasures

I saw a car on the way to work a catering job with my husband the other day. This was an epitome of beat up kind of car. Bad paint and loud. It only had one bumper sticker and that read, "Don't let the car fool you...my treasures are in Heaven." It floored me. Wow...how easily I forget. The bumper sticker promted me to find the verse that inspired it. Matthew 6:19-20NIV says, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." It is so easy to forget that this life is temporary, but we have eternity with our King to look forward to. Don't get me wrong, this life is an experience like no other, and God has purposes set for us to complete while we're here, but sometimes I get so focused on the tasks at hand, that I miss the big picture. When all is said and done, the stuff you accumulate doesn't matter....you can't take it with you. What did I do to further the kingdom of the Lord? Was I kind? Did I help someone? Was I a good friend? Did I show the love of God?
